A single Outlook item saved out as a standalone file: an email, an appointment, a contact or a task. Internally it is a Microsoft Compound File Binary container holding the item's MAPI properties, so unlike a .eml file it preserves Outlook-specific fields instead of following the RFC 5322 message format.
This type is not registered with IANA, but it is what Microsoft's own documentation uses and what e-discovery and archiving tools consistently expect. You may also see the generic application/octet-stream in the wild when a server has no mapping for the extension.
